HEY GUYS!
We are going to "pause" our paper mache projects for now and start on a new project. Our inspiration for this project will be Franz Marc. He is known for painting animals and doing so with bright, bold colors. He also "fractured" his images in quite a few of his works. See below:
So, you guys are going to pick an animal. DRAW it BIG on a sheet of newsprint. Cut it up into pieces. Tape those pieces onto a sheet of drawing paper. And then trace your new images. See the video below:
Anthropomorphic animals
So- on a sheet of 9x12 drawing paper, draw the HEAD of an animal. Be as realistic as possible. Use drawing pencils to blend and shade and add lots of value.
Once the head is complete, add the body, paying close attention to details like: wrinkles, folds, accessories, etc. use a sharpie to outline the BODY. Use watercolor to paint in the body, and use a solid color for the background. Once your paper is dry, then colored pencils are used to add finer details. Look at mine for any questions.

In your sketchbook, please respond to the above artworks. What do you think of them? Why do you think the artist chose the subjects she did? How did she create them? Were they complex? simple? How did she use color in her artwork? How do the artworks make you feel? Are they good? bad? Do you like them?
Think about the above questions in your reflection.
On the bottom or a previous empty page, I want you to recreate one of the above pictures in your sketchbook.

Claus Oldenburg (Page 64)
Claus Oldenburg is a sculpture artist known for his "soft" sculptures. He tends to display his work in public spaces like parks, community centers and sometimes, on the sides of buildings- but he can also be found inside of museums. In your sketchbooks, tell me what you think about these. Why do you think the artist made them like he did? Why are they soft instead of a harder substance? If you made one, what kind would you make? Draw one of them in your sketchbook, including the area (background) it is displayed in.
Salvador Dali
Salvador is known for his "wacky" and surreal paintings. He liked to shock and amaze people with his work. His paintings are known as surreal because they seem realistic (painted so) but are not. They are meant to trick you! You might recognize some of these from earlier art years. If not- be on the look out, his paintings and mustaches are everywhere! Which one do you think is the weirdest? Have you ever had a weird dream that didn't make sense? Tell me about it.. How would it look like on canvas?
Recreate one of his paintings on page 53.
