Week One: (March 17-20)
For the first assignment, I want you to draw in your sketchbook what this feels like. Quarantine. Covid-19. isolation. home-school. Remember our conversation before you left? Draw me some of these feelings.
For the second assignment: Grab something from your home. What is an object that will remind you of this experience? Draw that. Pay close attention to details, to shading (value), and textures.
For the third assignment: collect items from around your house to create a color wheel. I've included a picture for reference. Use what you have and be creative. Photograph it and email it to me! [email protected] I can't wait to see what you come up with!
For assignment number 4, grab something ORGANIC. This means something from nature. It could be a stick, a plant, a weed, flower, anything from outside and draw it. If you can, color it in. Choose a complementary color to color the background.

Week Two: (March 23-27)
Monday March 23: draw a quarantine self portrait! Mine would include messy hair, my favorite sweatshirt, and my dog in my lap. Anyone else’s dog really enjoying all this extra attention??
Tuesday March 24: Look at Edvard Munch's "The Scream" (left) What do you think is going on in this artwork? Describe the artwork (colors, lines) but also the FEELING of the work.
Next, recreate this artwork in your sketchbook, but change it to be relevant for today. Is the person you? someone else? What is he/she screaming at? Are the colors the same? different? Do we see what he/she is screaming at? Who is in the background? What does the bridge cross over? Is this a scene here in lincolnton or somewhere else?
Wednesday, March 25: Look at Wassily Kandinsky's work, "Black Relationship" (below). Describe what is going on in the picture. What do you see? How does he create BALANCE in this artwork?
To recreate this artwork, you may do one of the following:
* Create a drawing of geometric shapes showing balance
*Cut out shapes from a magazine or construction paper to create a balanced composition.
* Study the picture for a few minutes, then try to recreate the image from memory. Are you successful?
*Kandinsky was often inspired by music and painted as a response to the music he heard. Pick a song that means something to you and paint/draw a response to it.

Day Two: This assignment is also interactive. The Getty Museum in Los Angeles has put out a challenge: To recreate a famous artwork with things around the house. You can see from the examples that you can be as abstract as needed. One example just uses laundry! You can use an artwork that we have discussed in class, or go to a museum website (Getty, Moma as examples).
